Toy Time Joy Time
The Story About
Yenta Claus

T'was the first night
Chanukah. The children were sound asleep in their beds with dreams of toys
spinning in their heads. I was all cuddled up snuggly in my bed, and just
about to take a long winter's night rest, when, suddenly, I heard a loud
noise.
Startled by the racket outside, I jumped up and rushed to the
window to see what the fuss was about. I saw cheerful people gathering on
the street below. In what was a lucky spur-of-the-moment chance, I put on
my coat and boots and hurried out to the street
and there enjoyed the biggest surprise of my
life.
The ground was crisp and glistening with fresh fallen snow. The
street lights brightened the night with a daytime glow. Then what to my
wondering eyes should drive up, but a very bright and very small yellow
taxi with an electric Menorah on top!
It all happened quickly, but I did catch a glimpse of what was
in the taxi. I saw a charming lady with a cute dog and with them were bags
and bags full of toys. Then in a flash, the taxi and everyone and thing in
it, flew away leaving behind a trail of sparkling star dust.
I rushed home and just a few moments later I heard a thump, and
then outside my door was the jingle of keys. I stopped in my shoes, and
began to turn around when through the front door she came in with a bound.
She wore a pretty blue coat and matching hat and carried a bag full of toys
and candy gelt.
Her, eyes - how they twinkled! Her dimples how merry! Her
cheeks were like roses, her nose like a berry! Her lips were shiny red and
her mouth was drawn up in a joyful smile. She bounced as she walked and her
curly light hair tossed all the while.
She had a broad face and a little round belly which shook when
she laughed like a bowl full of jello. She was chubby and plump, a quite
jolly ole self. I laughed when I saw her - she looked like a Yiddisha elf!
Then, without saying a word, she quickly went to work. She
pulled out of her bag toys and candy gelt and
left them on the
Holiday
table. Then, she
noshed on some latkes and sweets and turned with a spring to pick up her
bag and left out the front door throwing a kiss as she went.
I followed her outside. There I saw her get into that yellow
taxi and say to the driver "It's Toy Time here, Zayde,"
and "it is time for us to move on!" Then in a twinkling, they
vanished into the night.
We heard that they flew throughout the city that
night. Then all across the land and the great wide world! And
everywhere they went they left toys and candy gelt.
Before the night was done, they made Toy Time for children far and wide. By
the first light dawn they made it all the way back home to
Florida
and their Toy
Time shop.
The story of Toy Time's special Chanukah visitor has spread far
and wide, but some skeptics still ask, “Is she
real?” The answer is clear, of course she is, and she is
especially real to all children who wish it. So, every year since that
magical night, that sweet lady brings presents to delight dreaming
children to make Toy Time for every child!
I have now told you what happened on that star-lit night and of
the miracle that happened here, there and everywhere! All that remains
to share is what we heard her shout as she flew out of sight:
“TOY TIME JOY FOR EVERY
CHILD!
AND TO ALL,
BRIGHT
HOLIDAY
NIGHT! ”
